Modellmembranen auf Oberflächen. Verankert und doch mobil
2008

Essential features of the polytypic charoite-96 structure compared to charoite-90
2011
AbstractCharoite, ideally (K,Sr,Ba,Mn)15–16(Ca,Na)32[(Si70(O,OH)180)](OH,F)4·nH20, is a rock-forming mineral from the Murun massif in Yakutia, Sakha Republic, Siberia, Russia, where it occurs in a unique alkaline intrusion. Charoite occurs as four different polytypes, which are commonly intergrown in nanocrystallme fibres. We report the structure of charoite-96(a =32.11(6),b =19.77(4),c =7.23(1) Å, β = 95.85(9)°,V =4565(24) Å3, space groupP21/m),which was solvedab initioby direct methods on the basis of 2676 unique electron diffraction reflections collected by automated diffraction tomography and refined toR1/wR2=0.34/0.37. The structure of charoite-96 is related to that of the charoite-90,…
Changes in the Spatial Structure of the Landscape of Isolated Forest Complexes in the 19th and 20th Centuries and Their Potential Effects on Supporti…
2020
This study assesses the changes in the spatial structure of the landscape between 1825 and 2019 in the isolated, protected forest complex of the Niemodlin Forests. Based on the analysis of changes in this structure, a change the supporting ecosystem services related to the protection of biodiversity was proposed. The landscape metrics were used separately for the analysis of the structure of the whole landscape, and individual types of ecosystems were used in the research. There were no major changes in the share of individual types of ecosystems during the period under review. At the same time, a very large increase in built-up areas and tree stands was found in 1825. Landscape metrics poi…
High and uneven levels of 45S rDNA site-number variation across wild populations of a diploid plant genus (Anacyclus, Asteraceae)
2017
The nuclear genome harbours hundreds to several thousand copies of ribosomal DNA. Despite their essential role in cellular ribogenesis few studies have addressed intrapopulation, interpopulation and interspecific levels of rDNA variability in wild plants. Some studies have assessed the extent of rDNA variation at the sequence and copy-number level with large sampling in several species. However, comparable studies on rDNA site number variation in plants, assessed with extensive hierarchical sampling at several levels (individuals, populations, species) are lacking. In exploring the possible causes for ribosomal loci dynamism, we have used the diploid genus Anacyclus (Asteraceae) as a suitab…
Growth parameters and population structure of Aristeus antennatus (Decapoda, Penaeidae) in the south Tyrrhenian Sea (southern coast of Italy).
2011
Abstract The blue and red shrimp Aristeus antennatus (Risso, 1816) is one of the most important fishery resources in the Mediterranean Sea. Monthly samplings of blue and red shrimp from June 2006 to May 2007 were landed by the trawl fleet in two northwest Sicilian fishing harbours (San Vito Lo Capo and Terrasini). The carapace length (CL) frequency distribution of females ranged between 15.00 and 59.00 mm, whereas male CLs ranged between 17.00 and 34.00 mm. The estimated parameters of the Von Bertalanffy growth function (VBGF) for San Vito lo Capo females and males were: CL∞ = 65 mm, K = 0.58 y–1 and CL∞ = 41 mm, K = 0.71 y–1, respectively; while for Terrasini females and males these were:…
A port-Hamiltonian Fluid-Structure Interaction Model for the Vocal folds ⁎ ⁎This work was supported by CONICYT-PFCHA/2017-21170472, and AC3E CONICYT-…
2018
Abstract Fluid-structure interaction models are of special interest for studying the energy transfer between the moving fluid and the mechanical structure in contact. The vocal folds are an example of a fluid-structure system, where the mechanical structure is usually modeled as a mass-spring-damper system. In particular, the estimation of the collision forces of the vocal folds is of high interest in the diagnosis of phonotraumatic voice pathologies. In this context, the port-Hamiltonian modeling framework focuses on the energy flux in the model and the interacting forces. In this paper, we develop a port-Hamiltonian fluid-structure interaction model based on the interconnection methodolog…
The open metastable structure of a collapsible sand: fabric and bonding
2015
This paper deals with the compositional and textural characteristics determining open metastable structures in the pleistocenic sand outcropping in the Agrigento district (Sicily). The aim of the study was to individuate the bonding types occurring between grains that could generate matric suction phenomena. The composition and microfabric were characterised by means of granulometry, porosimetry, permeability, optical and ESEM-EDS microscopy, thermogravimetry and XR diffractometry, electric conductivity, and ionic chromatography. The data thus acquired show that the skeleton of the sand is constituted mostly by bioclasts and microfossils, calcite and quartz monocrystalline grains. Moreover,…
SPECTR
2018
Modern high throughput sequencing platforms can produce large amounts of short read DNA data at low cost. Error correction is an important but time-consuming initial step when processing this data in order to improve the quality of downstream analyses. In this paper, we present a Scalable Parallel Error CorrecToR designed to improve the throughput of DNA error correction for Illumina reads on various parallel platforms. Our design is based on a k-spectrum approach where a Bloom filter is frequently probed as a key operation and is optimized towards AVX-512-based multi-core CPUs, Xeon Phi many-cores (both KNC and KNL), and heterogeneous compute clusters. A number of architecture-specific opt…
NMR Investigation of Structures of G-Protein Coupled Receptor Folding Intermediates
2016
Folding of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) according to the two-stage model (Popot, J. L., and Engelman, D. M. (1990) Biochemistry 29, 4031-4037) is postulated to proceed in 2 steps: partitioning of the polypeptide into the membrane followed by diffusion until native contacts are formed. Herein we investigate conformational preferences of fragments of the yeast Ste2p receptor using NMR. Constructs comprising the first, the first two, and the first three transmembrane (TM) segments, as well as a construct comprising TM1-TM2 covalently linked to TM7 were examined. We observed that the isolated TM1 does not form a stable helix nor does it integrate well into the micelle. TM1 is significant…
